Padayatra’- My first step to understand farming woes of my constituency. It started on March 3rd, 2018. The journey was for 150 kilometers, which covered 15 mandals and 50 villages demanding the opening of Nizam sugar factories.
At the outset, Nizam Sugar factory was established in 1938 and successfully run till few governments decided to favour private sugar firms and deliberately pushed it into losses and subsequently led to its shut down. Lakhs farmers cultivated sugarcane in and around Nizamabad and Jagtial districts and supplied to this factory. With it’s closure, the employees and farmers have suffered irreversible losses and are still fighting for its revival.
In 2014, the TRS government in its manifesto, promised to open the factory after 100 days of assuming power
After their failure to keep their promise, I took up this Padayatra which ended on March 11th in Bodhan (Nizamabad) with a huge gathering. Shri Hans raj ahir ji, the then MOS was the chief guest along with other prominent guests and promised to offer all the possible help if the state initiates opening of the factory.
That 150 kilometer walk still serves as a reference manual for my today’s endeavours as an MP on farmers and farming.
